In today’s technology world there is little that you cannot do with your mobile device, including tracking your own health. We have compiled a list of apps that focus on women’s health that are available for free or for a small price.
Exercise and Weight loss-
- Women’s Health Workouts LITE– this app is free from Women’s Health Magazine and includes 5 sample workouts. You may also upgrade to a full version which includes more than 130 exercises.
- Lose It and My Fitness Pal are apps that help with goals counting calories, and comparing foods.
- Fooducate actually has a bar-code scanning tool to grade foods by nutrition value.
Weight Watchers also has a very useful online program with apps to facilitate weight loss without having to actually go to the clinic to weigh in or for meetings. Women’s Care Specialists LLC recommends Weight Watchers for the safest/most effective way to lose weight and to establish healthy eating habits.
If you have tried some of these methods and are still struggling with inability to shed those extra pounds we recommend you make an appointment with either our office or your primary care physician.
Maintaining a normal weight is very important in your overall health.
Menstrual cycle charts-
- My Days, Fertility Friend, and iperiod. These are all good apps for keeping track of your menstrual cycle whether you are trying to prevent or plan pregnancy or simply just keep track of your cycle.
Breast health-
- Your Man Reminder. This app lets you choose which “man” you want to remind you every month to do your breast self-exam. You pick the one that appeals to you the most and “he” will send you a reminder each month when you are due.

Although these are all reputable apps to improve your health awareness, technology will never be able to replace that face to face interaction with your physician. Be cautious of apps that advertise testing blood or any other bodily fluids and remember these app are not able to diagnose diseases.
Annual wellness visits are the key to disease prevention, but these apps can be helpful in tracking your health in between visits or to identify trends that are occurring which may prompt an earlier appointment. If you are under the age of 30 and have any health issues you should be seeing a primary care physician annually. If you have no existing health problems we recommend finding a primary care physician once you turn 30yo for your annual screenings. We are happy to provide referrals for primary care physicians if you are in need of one.
