Talc Powder and Ovarian Cancer…..Am I at risk???

by Dr. Janet Matuszek

Johnson and Johnson was just ordered this month to pay $72 million dollars to one family of a woman who died from ovarian cancer after years of using the company’s talcum products. What does that mean to me….am I at risk?

First, lets all put this into perspective. Just because a jury found a company liable, does not mean that there is an association. Look at breast implants. Silicone breast implant company, Dow Corning, had to file bankruptcy ...

Are the latest trends causing you and your Gyno to become best friends? From topics of “Althlesiure Wear” to… “Have Hair or Go Bare?”

by Angie Warner WHNP

While we at WCS are happy to support women involved in an active lifestyle and encourage daily exercise, we are no fools to believe that every female we see at school, walking in the stores and at hanging out at the bus stops in their yoga pants are on their way to or from the gym.  In fact yoga pants and leggings have become such a staple in women’s fashion that they have coined a new category ...

More and more it seems that patients are hearing about tests from other family members and friends and are aware of the options to determine their baby’s risk for Down’s ...

To Squeeze or Not to Squeeze…That is the question. Update on Mammogram Recommendations

There has been a lot of discussion in the past about when to start screening mammograms and the frequency in which to have them done.  Most of the controversy stemmed from a 25-year follow-up of a Canadian study done to determine if screening mammogram is actually able to identify breast cancer better that Clinical Breast Exams (CBE- a breast exam done by a trained health care professional). The study included almost 90,000 women aged 40-69 years old from ...

What’s the big Whoop-Dee-Doo about Whooping Cough? New recommendations for

As children it seemed as if every time you went to the doctor you were getting a shot.  It’s no wonder that as adults we tend to slack off on preventative care.  Unfortunately our “slacking- off” is affecting the health of our newborn babies.  The Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis Vaccine (T-dap) is one of the vaccines that adults haven’t been keeping up-to-date on.  We all know that if we step on a rusty nail or get a deep ...
