CDC Guidance on Coronavirus in pregnant and breast feeding women.

Key points for pregnancy include the following:

-Published scientific reports are lacking on susceptibility of pregnant women to COVID-19.

-Immunologic and physiologic changes in pregnancy might lead to more susceptibility to viral infections

-Follow advice from the CDC including social distancing, washing hands and avoiding contact with people who are sick (family too)

-Mother-to-child transmission of COVID-19 is unknown. However promising early reports of most infants born to mothers with COVID-19 did not test positive (only one +)

-No information exists on adverse pregnancy outcomes for moms associated with the COVID-19

Key points for breastfeeding include the following:

-whether mothers can transmit COVID-19 via breast milk is unknown

-in limited studies, the virus has not been detected in breast milk

-If a mother is confirmed COVID-19 or symptomatic awaiting test results, she should take all possible precautions to avoid spreading the virus to her infant (washing hands before touching the infant, wearing face mask if possible, and washing hands before touching any pump or bottle parts if expressing breast milk)

Things are changing rapidly as we get more information.  However we know there is much misinformation on the internet.  We will change guidelines as CDC changes their recommendations/guidelines.
