Finally, those of us over 26 y.o. can now be immunized against certain cancers too. FDA approve Gardasil for ages 27-45.

Prior to October 5, 2018 many patients over the age of 26 have been turned away from getting the Gardasil vaccine to protect them from 9 strains of HPV that lead to cervical, vaginal, vulvar, head and neck cancers as well as genital warts.  Now the FDA has approved the administration of the vaccine series to both males and females age 27-45. Based on continued research and many more years of data collection the FDA has determined there is a benefit for immunization beyond 26 years of age.  This is very exciting news and we at WCS encourage our patients to receive this series.

As this approval is very recent, we are not certain as to how the insurance companies are going to cover the vaccine.  Historically a large majority of patients under the age of 26 y.o have not had to pay anything extra towards this vaccine series because it is considered preventative.  We are hopeful the insurance companies will follow suit for the new approved age group but we strongly encourage you to contact your insurance company prior to your appointment to inquire about your individual coverage.

If you are interested in starting the vaccine series of 3 injections spaced 2 mos and then 4 mos apart please call our office to schedule your injection.  You do not have to wait until your next appointment to receive your first injection.
