If you were to look at a job description for a Mom you would likely find listed… maid, chef, therapist, chauffeur, nurse, cheerleader, boss, hair dresser, homework advisor, peace keeper, referee, teacher, coach, snuggler, story teller, waitress, shopper, personal assistant, ATM… and the list goes on and on. I am certain there are many of you that can add quite a few more duties to that list.
We moms work hard and often put the needs of our children, family, friends, sports teams, PTO and work ahead of our personal needs. It is so common for busy moms to forget to take care of ourselves, yet it is so important that we focus on ourselves more often. After all, if we are not healthy then who is going to fulfill those job duties for us?
So this year on Mother’s Day take some well deserved time to focus on you. Sleep in a bit, take a shower without the entire family in the room, get lost in a book or catch up on your favorite show, sit outside and enjoy Mother Nature, smell the roses, exercise, unplug the electronics, take some time for the hobbies you enjoy doing, just spend the day doing what you want to. Enjoy life!!! Ahhh, doesn’t that sound great? Then come Monday morning call your doctors (Primary Care Physician, OB/GYN, eye doctor, the dentist), call your hair dresser and your masseuse and make appointments for YOU. For your health, for your beauty and for that overdue relaxation. Get your mammogram and schedule a lunch with your girlfriends, or even better… your mom. You deserve it and your kids deserve a happy, healthy mom too. So get rid of that mom-guilt and set aside some time each day for you, even if it is just to go to the bathroom alone.
