November is often celebrated as a month for giving thanks. At WCS, we could not be more thankful for our patients who trust us with their health and well being each and every day. As physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals, our goal in life is to help people. To do good in the world around us. And recently, we were humbled by one of our patients doing the same right in our waiting room.
Everyone understands, at some point or another, the struggles and costs of raising families and running a household. Our least favorite part of our jobs is asking our patients for money to cover copays, deductibles, and coinsurance. And we understand, more than most, the injustice of insurance. Over the past few years, premiums have skyrocketed – along with deductibles, co-insurance and out-of-pocket financial obligations of the patient.
Just this week, one of our patients simply could not afford to make her monthly payment. She was upset as she was referred to our office manager to discuss what options may be available to help her. Unbeknownst to us, the help she needed was sitting in our waiting room. Another patient, waiting for her own appointment, offered to cover $500 for the mom-to-be. WOW! This waiting room angel left each and every one of us amazed, tearful, and proud to witness the generosity she was able to bestow.
November is a great month to be thankful, but also to give. Each one of us has something we can offer and share with those around us to make the days a little brighter.
To the angel in our waiting room – we are inspired and thank you for the lesson of love.
